About Helen

Over the past 25 years, Helen has taught generations of four and five year olds the fundamental aspects of gardening at Woolaston Primary. Helen retired from teaching at the school last year and has since set up an afterschool gardening club which is constantly oversubscribed. Her latest project is reclaiming an old swimming pool site to transform into a productive garden for the whole school. Her love for gardening is infectious and her determination and resilience make her a great role model for the pupils.

Judges' comments

“Helen is so dedicated to gardening at Woolaston Primary School that I don’t think there is anything that can stop her! Over her more than 25 years at the school Helen has helped the school to achieve so much and I don’t doubt that she will continue to do so for as long as she is able.”
