About Walkerburn Primary

As it is a particularly small school, the pupils of Walkerburn Primary School have learned to work together in all aspects of school life, including gardening. The older children can often be found helping and encouraging younger pupils to learn new gardening skills. After winning first place for their potatoes and beans at the village show, they are driven to win more prizes for their produce.

Judges' comments

“The perseverance of this children is obvious, having to restart their garden after the floods. Despite only having 29 children in the school, they have made a massive impact on the garden and even have time to enter into the village show! A brilliant team.”

“The team at Walkerburn are very hard working and are learning great enterprise skills by growing and selling their produce at the farmers market. It’s lovely that the older children mentor the younger children. A worthy finalist!”

“Wonderful team spirit and great to see they are getting out in the community selling their produce and entering shows. For such a small school, they make a big impact.”
