About Newland School for Girls

The gardening group at Newland School for Girls is made up of students from very different backgrounds and beliefs, and a number of students speak little English. The group has come together through their love of gardening and have shared stories with each other about what they used to grow in their own countries. The dedicated team tend to their garden daily, work hard to protect local wildlife and have raised money for the garden by selling hampers of produce grown in the school.

Judges' comments

“The way that they propagate plants to support their science department is fantastic – they’re allowing other pupils to learn more about how amazing they know plants are.”
