Introduction

Use recycled paper to make these origami seed packets that can be used for storing seeds collected from the garden. They could also be decorated and sold at school fairs to raise money for your school garden.

  1. Recycle a page from an old gardening magazine or use some sheets of scrap paper

  2. Turn the rectangle into a square by folding and ripping off or cutting the excess paper

  3. With the fold at the bottom and right angle at the top, fold one of the corners across the middle to the other side

  4. Fold the lower corner across the top to the opposite corner

  5. After filling the seed packet with seeds, fold down the top and secure with a paper clip

  6. Don't forget to label the seed packet and the expiry date for the seeds.

Additional information

  • Use this activity as part of Supermarket Sweep class growing topic.
  • Seed packets should be stored in a dry, dark and cool location until it is time to sow. If they are stored in a fridge within an airtight container, most seed types will remain viable for a number of years.
