British Science Week (8 to 17 March 2024) is a celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths, also known as STEM. We've put together a range of science and horticultural activities for your school to engage with throughout the week.

A handy gardener

Make this handy glove propagator to look at seed germination.

Be a soil scientist

Test whether adding homemade compost to soil helps your plants grow bigger and stronger.

Estimating environments

Use trees in the school grounds to improve estimation skills.

Who lives in a place like this?

Explore which creatures are found in the compost heap and their role in the composting process.

Make a herbarium

Press plants and flowers to identify and record different parts of a plant.

Become a pomologist

Use the senses to observe the taste, texture, colour and shape of a range of different apples.

If you're looking for more activities like this, have a look at our Earth Matters growing topic. From wormeries to compost bins, it's all about understanding that working with your soil and compost is the foundation for healthy plants and bumper harvests.
