National Education Nature Park launch

Boosting biodiversity in England - the National Education Nature Park will launch in October.

04 September 2023

Did you know that the land from every nursery, school and college in England forms an area twice the size of Birmingham?

The RHS, in partnership with the Natural History Museum and other partners has been developing the National Education Nature Park, an exciting new programme that will put nature at the heart of education.

The National Education Nature Park brings together places of education to form a vast network of spaces across England taking action to improve biodiversity and empowering children and young people to make a positive difference to both their own and to nature’s future.

The programme will:

  • Meet curriculum goals with free curriculum-linked resources that can be used flexibly across a range of subject areas.
  • Upskill and build confidence with activities for educators and young people to build green and digital skills.
  • Generate the first national understanding of habitat and biodiversity data on the school estate.
  • Contribute to nature recovery with every small improvement contributing to large scale nature recovery across England.
  • Improve wellbeing through access to green space and outdoor learning and builds agency to tackle the planetary emergency.
  • Give every child and young person in England the opportunity to take part in real scientific research on biodiversity and nature recovery.
  • Develop a meaningful connection to nature that children and young people will carry throughout their lives.
  • Complement the Campaign for School Gardening.
