RHS Sustainable Futures grants awarded
Supporting schools to protect and adapt their gardening projects to face the challenges of a fast-changing environment.
31 January 2023
In October 2022, we launched the RHS Sustainable Futures Grant to help our network of schools become more resilient by future-proofing and adapting their school gardens against adversity. We are excited to award 20 schools from the RHS Campaign for School Gardening network £2,500 each to support them face these challenges.
In a world that is rapidly changing, school gardeners have to adapt to ensure their gardening and growing efforts stay relevant and sustainable. This year’s successful applicants from across the UK seek to address a range of issues. From a school which aims to double its growing area to supply more fresh fruit and vegetables for an onsite food bank; to a project introducing a new water collection system to reduce reliance on tap water; to an initiative which aims to provide school families with the skills and tools to cook as well as grow their own food.
“This grant will enable us to grow and provide fresh, organic fruit and vegetables to our onsite food bank, helping not only students in school but our wider community," Seven Kings School, Seed to Plate project.
“This new grant aims to support schools to adapt and future-proof what they do,” says Kay Clark, Community Development Manager. “As these amazing projects progress throughout 2023, we will share the inventive and inspiring ways our school gardeners are tackling these common challenges to help the wider school community do the same.”
