Terms & Conditions – RHS School Gardening Champion of the Year

1. The nominated adult (aged 18 years and over) must be working or volunteering at a school registered to the RHS Campaign for School Gardening that is within the UK (England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland). If your school is not currently registered, you can register online for free. If you're not sure if your school is registered you can check by typing your school's postcode, name or address into the text box at the top of this page. 

2. Nominations will only be accepted when submitted via the RHS School Gardening Champion of the Year online nomination form by another adult (aged 18 and over), here after termed ‘The Proposer’.

3. The Proposer must be an appointed representative of a school. For example a teacher, teaching assistant, member of the Senior Leadership Team, parent helper or volunteer, a school governor or member of a Parent Teacher Association.

4. Only one entry will be accepted per adult nominated. In the case where two are received, only the first will be accepted. However, schools may nominate more than one adult via separate nomination forms.

5. The online nomination form will close on at 5pm on Monday 27 March 2023. No nominations can be made or will be accepted after this time.

6. The details provided by The Proposer will be used for the purpose of shortlisting for this competition only. 

7. After the closing date the RHS will shortlist five adults, here after termed ‘The Finalists’. Their Proposers will be notified if their nomination has been shortlisted. The Finalists’ details will be used to contact them to seek permission for their name and photo/film to be used for any purposes the RHS deems appropriate in connection with the RHS School Gardeners of the Year, including publication on the RHS and/or RHS Campaign for School Gardening websites.

8. By submitting a nomination, The Proposer, as a nominated representative of the school, acknowledges that they have obtained the school’s consent to its name and address being published in connection with receiving a prize and agrees to the RHS disclosing the school name and address on the RHS and RHS Campaign for School Gardening websites and to any individual requesting the name of the recipient schools. The school also agrees to take part in any publicity as conducted by the RHS Press Office or RHS Campaign for School Gardening team.

9. A list of the Finalists will be posted on the RHS and/ or Campaign for School Gardening websites and via the RHS Campaign for School Gardening social media channels and any other relevant channels.

10. Each Finalist’s school will be required to submit a film for the second stage of judging. Filming notes and guidance will be emailed to the Proposers of Finalists upon notification that their nomination has been shortlisted. 

11. The schools of four Finalists will receive a certificate and £200 worth of National Garden Gift Vouchers.
     
12. One Finalist will be selected as a Winner. Their Proposer will be notified and the result of the competition will be announced on the RHS Campaign for School Gardening website and via the RHS Campaign for School Gardening social media channels and any other relevant channels in early June 2023.

13. The Winner’s school will receive a certificate and £500 worth of National Garden Gift Vouchers and a patio glasshouse worth £1,500. The school will also have the opportunity to be visited by a celebrity gardener to present the prizes and take part in a celebratory activity.

14. All decisions of the RHS are final and no correspondence regarding Finalists or the Winners can be entered into.

15. The prizes must be accepted as stated and cannot be altered. There will be no cash alternatives. Vouchers cannot be exchanged for their value.

16. By sending in the nomination form to the RHS you will be deemed to have accepted the terms and conditions and to have agreed to be bound by them.

17. These terms and conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

18. The RHS reserves the right to amend these conditions at any time by publication on the RHS and/or RHS Campaign for School Gardening websites.

19. The RHS School Gardeners of the Year competition is open to UK residents, excluding i) employees, agents or subcontractors of the RHS, ii)  any Competition sponsor or its employees, agents or subcontractors, iii) the immediate families of such employees, agents, subcontractors or sponsors.
