RHS School Gardening Champion of the Year 2017 Terms and Conditions

  1. The nominated adult (aged 18 years and over) must be working or volunteering at a school registered to the RHS Campaign for School Gardening that is within the UK (England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland). If your school is not currently registered, you can register free here.
     
  2. Nominations will only be accepted on an RHS School Gardening Champion of the Year entry form completed and signed by a responsible adult aged 18 years and over, hereinafter termed ‘The Proposer’. 
     
  3. The Proposer must be an appointed representative of a school. For example a teacher, teaching assistant, parent helper or volunteer, a school governor or member of a Parent Teacher Association.
     
  4. Only one entry form will be accepted per adult nominated. In the case where two are received, only the first will be accepted.
     
  5. All entries must be emailed to schoolgardening@rhs.org.uk with School Gardening Champion of the Year in the subject heading or posted to: RHS Campaign for School Gardening, RHS Garden Wisley, Woking GU23 6QB.
     
  6. The entry form must be received by the RHS by the closing date of 5pm on Friday 28 April 2017. Responsibility cannot be accepted for lost, damaged or mislaid entries. Proof of sending by email or postage is not proof of receipt.
     
  7. The details provided by The Proposer will be used for the purpose of shortlisting for this competition only.  
     
  8. After the closing date the RHS will shortlist four adults, hereinafter termed ‘The Finalists’. Proposers will be notified by 5pm on Wednesday 10 May 2017 if their nomination has been shortlisted. The Finalists details will be used to contact them to seek permission for their name and photo/film to be used for any purposes the RHS deems appropriate in connection with the RHS School Gardening Champion of the Year, including publication on the RHS and RHS Campaign for School Gardening website.
     
  9. By submitting a nomination The Proposer, as a nominated representative of the school, acknowledges that they have obtained the school’s consent to its name and address being published in connection with receiving a prize and agrees to the RHS disclosing the school name and address on the RHS and/or Campaign for School Gardening websites and to any individual requesting the name of the recipient schools. The school also agrees to take part in any publicity as conducted by the RHS Press Office or Campaign for School Gardening team. 
     
  10. A list of the four Finalists will be posted on the RHS and/ or Campaign for School Gardening websites. 
     
  11. Each Finalist’s school will receive a digital camera to make a film to be submitted for the second stage of judging. It is at the school’s discretion whether the camera is retained by the school or presented to the adult nominated. 
     
  12. The closing date for the RHS receiving the films is 5pm on Friday 02 June 2017.
     
  13. One Finalist will be selected as a Winner. Their Proposers will be notified by 5pm on Wednesday 14 June 2017 and listed on the RHS Campaign for School Gardening website.
     
  14. Each of The Finalists and the Winner will be invited to RHS Garden Wisley for a Prize Giving Ceremony on Saturday 01 July 2017. Here they will each receive a certificate and an engraved hand trowel. The RHS reserves the right to restrict the number of guests per Finalist.
     
  15. Following the Prize Giving Ceremony, The Finalists will each be offered a place on an RHS school gardening training course. The Finalists’ schools will each receive a Gabriel Ash Upright Coldframe and £250 of National Garden Gift vouchers.
     
  16. The Winner will receive two adult and up to four child tickets for either RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show 2018 or RHS Tatton Park Flower Show 2018. 
     
  17. The Winner’s school will receive an extra £250 in National Garden Gift vouchers, a total of £500 and a celebrity will be invited to spend a day at the school.
     
  18. All decisions of the RHS are final and no correspondence regarding Finalists or the Winners can be entered into. 
     
  19. The prizes must be accepted as stated and cannot be altered. There will be no cash alternatives. Vouchers cannot be exchanged for their value.
     
  20. By sending in the entry form to the RHS you will be deemed to have accepted the terms and conditions and to have agreed to be bound by them. 
     
  21. These terms and conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
     
  22. The RHS reserves the right to amend these conditions at any time by publication on the RHS and/or Campaign for School Gardening websites.
     
  23. RHS Young School Gardener of the Year, RHS School Gardening Champion of the Year and RHS School Gardening Team of the Year is open to UK residents, excluding i) employees, agents or subcontractors of the RHS, ii)  any Competition sponsor or its employees, agents or subcontractor, iii) the immediate families of such employees, agents, subcontractors or sponsors.
