RHS Young School Gardener of the Year 2015
6 years old from Leconfield Primary School in Beverley, East Yorkshire
George is a quiet, unassuming boy who joined the gardening club at his school in September 2014. George is an all-rounder, enjoying the hard landscaping elements of gardening, as well as the softer elements. George even asked Santa for a shed when he was just 4 years old! George works with his granddad at home in the garden and brings the knowledge and skills he has learned to the gardening club meetings.
George is a man of action and rarely has to be told twice how to do a job, he simply looks, listens and then does. He is also very gentle with seedlings, taking care when pricking out and planting, and has enormous patience for someone so young.
“What an all-rounder, his passion, knowledge and skills shine.”
“An incredibly knowledgeable young man. The care with which he handled his crops showed a sensitivity that will stand him in good stead, whatever he chooses to do in life.”
“George, you have everything it take to become a great gardener and excellent horticulturalist.”
“George’s natural tenderness and care for the plants he grows is evident, and a real credit to him. What I loved about George was not only his obvious knowledge but his interest in the wider elements of horticulture such as hard landscaping.”
“It was evident in the film that George really is a ‘man of action’. George shows a natural affinity for landscaping as well for plants. We can see him working in Horticulture in the future.”
