Become an Assessor

Inspire the next generation to grow

We’re looking for volunteers from the horticultural industry to take part in a one-day volunteering opportunity as a Green Plan It assessor!

As an assessor you’ll have the opportunity to attend one of our Green Plan It celebration events in late November/early December 2019 where you will meet school teams who have taken part in the RHS 10-week Green Plan It project to design and build a model garden for their school or community.

As part of a small panel of assessors you will assess the work of approximately four teams by understanding the inspiration for their designs and the processes they went through to get to their final ideas.

As an assessor, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Share your knowledge with young people
  • Encourage positive social action
  • Network with other horticultural assessors
  • Feel good about making a difference

You will need to be available to attend the celebration day of your nearest Green Plan It hub in late November/early December and have small amount of time before this day to look at the reports of the designs you will be assessing (these will be sent to you).

How to get involved

  1. Complete our application form to become an assessor and let us know which hub (see regional venues below) you are nearest to
  2. You will be contacted to discuss your application
  3. If successful, you will be invited to attend the celebration event of your nearest hub
  4. At the Green Plan It celebration event you will meet students, assess their designs and help decide on the winners!

Up for taking part?

Assessors will have worked in or have experience of horticulture or a related industry e.g. landscape architecture, garden design, green space management and maintenance, gardener roles and garden retail.

Experience of working with schools or young people is not essential but you should have a passion for plants and a desire to share your interest with young people.
